Title: Managing the Commons: Gate- Keeping Experiences from Petroglyph Hill, Galisteo Basin, New Mexico
Speaker: Dr. Beth Mills Community Planner for the Open Space and Trails Program Petroglyph Hill, Galisteo Basin
Petroglyph Hill, in the center of the Galisteo Basin, is renowned for the thousands of pre-historic and historic petroglyphs depicted there, and for sweeping views of the Galisteo Basin from its summit. Along with these images and views, the guest speaker will share stories about the challenges and delights of “managing” a place that belongs to everyone.
Beth Mills, Ph.D., is a Community Planner for the Open Space and Trails Program. She is a Cultural Geographer and has worked in the West Indies, Hawaii, California, Washington D.C., and Colorado. For the past 8 years Beth has worked as a planner for Santa Fe County, and currently provides expertise in GIS analysis and planning for the Open Space Program. She is interested in the relationships between communities and their environment and in the cultural landscapes of the American West. Beth has two adult children who, as it turns out, love to travel as much as she does.
