August 17, 2016

"Vertebrate Fossils From the Dixon and Espanola Areas"

7 pm at the Embudo Valley Library, Dixon

Dr. Bruce MacFadden, Curator of Vertebrate Paleontology at the Florida Museum of Natural History,  who did his Ph.D. work at (then) San Juan Pueblo, will speak on “Vertebrate Fossils From the Dixon and Espanola Areas”. Gary Morgan, Curator of Paleontology at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History will share the podium and speak about the “Dixon Horse”, a 3-toed Protohippus fossil, approximately 13 million years old,  discovered in 2009 by Dixon resident Makaela Vogel and excavated with the help of Ojo Sarco geologist, Scot Aby. Dr. MacFadden invites local residents to bring fossils in your possession to the talk, for identification.

How about making an evening of it: the Dixon co-op Deli is open until 7 pm with hot and cold sandwiches and homemade pizza, for those who want to enjoy a full evening out.
