Dixon Summer Archaeology Lecture Series begins on Wednesday, June 13th, 7pm at the Dixon Library.  The talk is entitled:

“Ancestral Tewa Archaeology and the Precolonial Villages of the Chama Region”   by Dr. Samuel Duwe (Assistant Professor, University of Oklahoma)

Come join us for an evening of new insights into the remarkable history of the Chama region, home to many of the largest precolonial villages in the Southwest. Dr. Samuel Duwe has conducted fieldwork in the northern Rio Grande for two decades, specializing in detailed analyses of the extraordinary Ancestral Tewa villages of the 13^th, 14^th and early 15^th centuries. Dr. Duwe’s research is notable both for its attention to the material evidence of shrine-based rituals surrounding large village sites and for his efforts to draw upon Tewa knowledge and philosophy as a means of interpreting the archaeological record. 

The Dixon Co-op Deli is open for grilled sandwiches and pizza before the talk.
