Talk:History of the Utes in Colorado and New Mexico

Speaker:   Alden B. Naranjo, Jr.

Location:  Kit Carson Electric - 118 Cruz Alta Rd, Taos

Bio:  Alden B. Naranjo, Jr., is a member of the Southern Ute Tribe, Ignacio, Colorado.  He is currently NAGPRA (Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act) Officer and  THPO (Tribal Historic Preservation) Officer for the Tribe.  

Mr. Naranjo has worked with tribal, state, and federal agencies for many years as tribal historian, elder committee chairman, and law enforcement officer.  He has presented at cultural and educational events nationally and internationally, most recently representing the Southern Ute Tribe in Washington, DC, with the national Christmas tree.  A native Ute speaker, Mr. Naranjo is involved in a variety of tribal language and cultural revitalization efforts, as well as participating in the traditions passed down to him.
