The Archaeology of Cuba is a story of migration and cultural survival. For thousands of years prehistoric peoples inhabited Cuba and the surrounding islands nearby. The environment, though lacking in large mammals for game, proved to be bountiful for the early hunter-gatherers and the tropical soils produced enough harvest for early agriculture to create a population explosion. The early inhabitants remained in a paradise until one day in October 1492. The rest is history. A lesson that should be told again and again. So here it is one more time......

Phil Alldritt is an instructor of Anthropology and Archaeology at the University of New Mexico-Taos since 2000. Since 1999, he has been working and doing research in Cuba as an archaeologist and tour guide. He has a Master's Degree in Latin American Studies from the University of Arizona and has been traveling and guiding in Latin America since 1979.
